NeonTunnel™
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Originally inspired by classic Tempest for its tunnel circling movement, this twitchy, neon arcade game is about high score and lasting as long as possible.
Gameplay
Circle around the tunnel freely at any angle. Smash into glowing orb pickups. Orbs give you point and more time. Miss too many orbs and you run out of time and explode. Don't smash into blocks. Three strikes and you're out.
Controls
Plays best with mouse or joystick, but keyboard movement is also possible. WASD/Arrows are mapped to absolute, cardinal directions: up, left, down, right.
Development
More gameplay was planned, but I wanted to limit this to a single month of development time, so I simply attempted to polish and deliver a basic playable build. No plans at this time to develop further, but feedback would still be appreciated so I can learn from this for future games.
Trivia
- Total development time: just over 100 hours.
- Feelings about the name: I hate it, but Super Smash was already taken. ~(;

Not bad. There is a problem with the wasd controls though. A and D can't get you to the top. W and S can't get you to the right.
WASD/Arrows are mapped to cardinal directions. Want to go more left, press left. Want to go more up, press up. To get to the top, you have to press up or W. So it's working as intended. Another option, however, is mouse or gamepad. Those might be more intuitive for you.
I guess if more people like me, want to move clockwise with A and counter-clockwise with D, you can add that as an option too, If you want.
You're not the first to mention it. The first thing I tried was relative directions so that either left or right (or up/down) would send you full circle. The problem is when you're making fast decisions and need to nudge left so you press left which then sends you right while on the ceiling. I found it confusing. Unfortunately, the current scheme is also confusing. It's a trade off. If I were to update the game, I'd offer both control schemes, but I'm not sure which would be the default since there are problems with both configurations. The game really needs a dial input instead of a directional input.
